How to Create Tags and Segments in Convertkit
Classifying your audience with tags and segments allows you to send more personalized campaigns.
And personalized emails are one of the keys to a successful email marketing campaign.
Tailoring the content of an email based on an individual’s interests, demographics, or behavior will increase the chance of your emails being opened and read.
So we have made this tutorial to guide you on how to create tags and segments in Convertkit.
How to create tags in Convertkit
Tags are labels you create to help organize your contacts. Tagging lets you bring your own contact structure into Convertkit and label contacts based on data you know about them.
Create a tag
1. Click Grow and go to Subscribers.
2. Go to the bottom right corner of the page and Click Create a Tag.
3. Enter a name for the tag and click Save.
Apply tags to subscribers
Once you have created the tag, you can now label your contacts with them.
1. When you import new subscribers into your Convertkit account, you will have the option to label the new contacts with tags to be able to identify them.
2. If you want to assign tags to your already existing subscribers, select the subscribers you want to label.
3. From the Bulk action menu, click Add Tag.
4. Select the tag you have created and click Save.
Now that you have created a tag, let’s see how you can create segments.
How to create Segments
Segments are a group of your contacts, exactly like tags. The only difference is that segments are added dynamically, unlike tags that you add manually to your contacts.
When you create segments, you add conditions. Once they are met, the contact will automatically be added to the segment.
How to create a segment
1. Click Grow and go to Subscribers.
2. Go to the bottom right corner of the page and click Create a Segment.
3. Enter a name for the Segment.
Add filters to the segment
1. Click Add Filter to apply filters to the segment.
2. Choose the type of data you want to filter your contacts with.
3. Configure and specify the conditions and click Add Filter.
4. Once you have added filters, click Save.
5. In our example, we have added the Distance from a postal code, within 10 miles, United States, 93721.
When a contact is within 10 miles of the provided postal code, the contact will enter the segment automatically.
That is all, we hope this tutorial was helpful, and you learned how to create tags and segments with Convertkit.
