Klaviyo has made it simple to import contacts through their integrations with some major platforms.

But if you are not using these platforms, you can import your contacts using a file.

However, we know that importing your contacts can be a complicated process.

So we decided to create this tutorial and help you how to import your contacts to Klaviyo.

Sync contacts from another service


You can use built-in integration to import existing subscriber lists as well as unsubscribes with Klaviyo if you are migrating from one of these Platforms:

  • Mailchimp
  • Campaign Monitor
  • Constant Contact
  • Madmimi
  • Salesforce

If you are using other platforms or have your list as a file, skip to the next section.

(a) To sync contacts, click on your profile in the down-left corner

(b) Go to Integrations

(c) Go to All Integrations

(d) Filter the Category to Email.

(e) Select your former Email service provider from the built-in ESP integrations listed. You will be prompted to Enter the API key from your former ESP.

(f) Enter the API key from your former ESP and click, Connect

  • Depending on the platform, you will need to configure additional settings in the platform.

Import your contacts manually


(a) To Import your contacts into Klaviyo manually, you must first export your contacts from your previous ESP and download the list as a CSV file.

(b) In the left-side menu, click Audience and select Lists and segments

(c) Filter by Lists

(d) Click the three dots next to the list you want to import your contacts in and select Import Data

(e) Drag and drop or upload the file you downloaded

(f) You will now map the contact’s properties from your file with the contact’s properties in Klaviyo. In simple terms, select the correct attribute for the data you imported.

  • If you wish not to import certain data, uncheck the boxes next to the columns

  • Click Next
  • Confirm that you have consent to email these contacts and click Import
