How to Import your contacts to Aweber

Do you want to import your contacts to Aweber? We know that importing your contacts to a new ESP can be an intimidating thought.

So we decided to create this tutorial and guide you on how to import your subscribers to Aweber.

Let’s get into it!

How to Import your contacts to Aweber

Import your contacts through a file

Export and download your list as a file

1. To import your list to Aweber, you must first download your contact list from your previous email service provider as a CSV file.

Here are links to instructions for some major providers:

1. Now, you must import the downloaded file into AWeber. To do so, click Subscribers and go to Add Subscribers.

2. Click Import multiple.

3. Drag and drop the file or click on the marked area to browse for the file.

Your contacts are now imported, but AWeber can not detect what kind of data you have imported. Now, you have to manually match the columns from the CSV file to the fields in AWeber.

Configure settings

Map the data

Mapping the data is like connecting wires, red to red and yellow to yellow. The same goes here, the email column to the email field.

Matching columns to fields

1.  If the field does not match the columns, choose the correct field from the menu.

Columns options

2. If you don’t want to import a certain column, leave it unmapped or select Skip.

3. If you can not find any field matching a column you want to import, select -Add New Field-, enter a field name, and click Add.

4. After mapping the columns, click Next: Confirm Opt-in.

Now that you have mapped the data, it is time to review and configure some options before the import is complete.

Configure additional settings

1. In this step, decide if you want your subscribers to receive a confirmation email before they get imported to your AWeber list.

We do not recommend sending a confirmation email but instead updating your privacy policy on how your customer’s information is shared.

2. Now that the contacts are imported, add tags to them.

That way, you can easily identify the imported contacts if you need to make a bulk edit to them later.

If you are on the free plan, you can only have one list of subscribers, and custom segmentation is not available. So tags are the only way to keep your contacts organized.

3. In this step, provide information about the background of your contacts.

After that, click Submit your import.

AWeber will process your import. Once it’s done, you will be notified through email.

That’s it, we hope you found this tutorial helpful and learned how to import your contacts to Aweber.
